Abigail was born at presumably, County Buckinghamshire, England, say 1634.1 She married Samuel Chesebrough, son of William Cheesebrough and Anna Stevenson, at Stonington, New London, Connecticut, on 30 November 1655. Great Migration Begins disputes the claim that Abigail, daughter of Richard Ingraham, was Samuel Chesebrough's wife, saying there is no evidence for the claim. In fact GMB says that only sons are known for Richard Ingraham, the supposed father of Abigail..3,1 As of 30 November 1655,her married name was Chesebrough.3 As of 5 June 1675,her married name was Holmes.4 Abigail unknown married Joshua Holmes on 5 June 1675 at Stonington, New London, Connecticut.4 She married James Avery, son of Christopher Avery and Margery Abraham, at Stonington, New London, Connecticut, on 4 July 1698.5,1,4 As of 4 July 1698,her married name was Avery.5

Abner Dassance1
M, b. 1782, d. 1866
Abner was born at Cheshire County, New Hampshire, in 1782. He was perhaps born at Surry, Cheshire County, NH, but that has not been proven.
The 1850 and 1860 federal Censuses for Newfield, NY, both state that he was born in New Hampshire about 1782.
.2,3 He married Patience Ballou on 19 February 1804 at Richmond, Cheshire, New Hampshire.4 Abner Dassance lived in 1840 at Newfield, Tompkins, New York.5 He lived in 1850 at Newfield, Tompkins, New York.6 He married Catherine "Caty" Rose, daughter of John Rose and Kate (Cattey) Wheeler, at Wallingford, Rutland, Vermont, after 14 March 1852. There is a question about Abner's surname. Freda Beach calls him either Abner Dawson of Abner Dassance. My research into census records after 1850 and into surnames in Newfield, NY, leads me to believe that Abner's surname was indeed Dassance.
Depending on how the name was pronounced, and how phonetic spelling was used in the mid 19th century in rural areas, it doesn't take much of a stretch to confuse Dassance with Dawson.
Suppose the name was pronounced with an "aw" vowel sound instead of a "cat" vowel sound.
Dassance could well have been pronounced "Dawssance", which could have been interpreted as "Dawson".
In any event, I am sure that my Cattey (Rose) Bourn married Abner Dassance (however it is pronounced or written) some time after Amos Bourn's death 14 Mar 1852, and the census of 1860, when she was living with Abner at Newfield, NY.
A look at the 1855 New York State Census for Newfield, would narrow the timeframe to a couple of years if Cattey appeared as Abner's wife in 1855..7,8 Abner Dassance lived in 1860 at Newfield, Tompkins, New York.3 Abner died in 1866 at Newfield, Tompkins, New York.7,2
